The Tribal Health care Research Project is Initiated by Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Science (C.C.R.S) in 1982 in India. A Tribal Health care Research Project has been Allotted to the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa Leh in September 2014 Under the (C.C.R.S). The Tribal Health care Research Programme amis to provide free medical camps for tribal population of Leh And Kargil Districts at their Door steps under TSP. This programme includes raising awareness among local tribal people about cleanliness of domestic hygiene.
- Study of the living conditions, geographical and environmental profile of tribal people.
- Assess the availability and use of medicinal plants in the area.
- Study of dietary habits.
- Analyze the Socio-demographic profile.
- Nature and frequency of prevalent diseases and collection of information related to health status.
- Promote of knowledge about hygiene and prevention diseases.
- Provide medical aid at their door steps.
- Collect and document claims related to folk medicines.
During the period 2020-2024, 432 visits ware made to 359 villages and areas of Leh & kargil district under the Tribal sub Plan. The total populations of 57,489 were surveyed and Sowa Rigpa medicines were provided to 13,672 patients for different conditions of ailments. Additionally, medical assistance and treatment were given at the Zangkhar OPD branch. The survey found that females were more suffered than male. The prevalent diseases found in these two districts are Drumbu (Arthritis), Phowei-nad (Stomach Disorder), mKhel-nad (Kidney Diseases), rTsakar-nad (Nerves Disorders), Phowa-sMugpo-nad (Peptic ulcer), Trakloong-sTodtsang (Hypertension), mGo-nad (Headache),)mKripa disorders, Loong disorders and Baed-kan disorders. During the survey of these two districts, During the survey 10 folk medicine claims were collected regarding different disease conditions from local people and Amchi’s.
